Can the elevator go down to our basement too?
Yes, in most homes it can. Our PVE30, PVE37 and PVE52 models reach up to 50 feet over as many as 5 stops, so one elevator can link the basement, the main floor and the upstairs. The Cube serves two or three stops. Many Salt Lake City houses have a lower level, and it is often the floor people stop using first. Your dealer will check the heights between your floors during the home visit.
Will we have to tear out walls or dig up the floor?
No, not in a standard install. The elevator stands on your existing floor and holds its own weight, so there is no pit to dig and no shaft to build. The main work is making sure that floor is level and cutting a clean opening in the floor above. In an older home, that keeps the job small and saves the rooms you love. Your dealer will show you exactly what your home needs.
Who takes care of the city permit?
Your authorized dealer helps you with it. In most cases, a home elevator in Salt Lake City goes through the local building department, much like other projects that touch the structure or wiring of a home. What is needed can depend on your address and your house. Your dealer checks the rules, prepares what is required and guides you through the inspection that typically follows, so you are not left to sort it out alone.
How many days will the crew be in our house?
Once your home is ready, the install itself typically takes 2 to 3 days. Before that, there may be some prep, such as leveling the floor, cutting the floor opening or adding an electrical circuit. The time for that part depends on your home and on the permit. You can stay in your house the whole time. Your dealer will give you a clear plan after the visit, so you know what happens each day.
What if the power cuts out while Mom is inside?
She comes down safely on her own. If the power fails during a ride, the cabin lowers to the bottom floor at a slow, safe speed, and the door unlocks so she can step out. She does not need to call anyone or wait for the power to return. There is also an alarm and a phone in the cabin. Many families tell us this is the part that lets them relax about a parent living alone.
Is there a model that fits a wheelchair?
Yes, the PVE52 is our wheelchair-accessible model. It has room for a rider in a wheelchair, and it can also carry up to three people. It is not ADA compliant, and not every wheelchair fits, so we suggest trying it first at a PVE authorized distributor with the chair you use. Your dealer will also check that your home has the space for the larger cabin.
How do you work out the price for our house?
Your price comes from three things: the model, the number of floors, and the prep your home needs. A two-stop install in a newer home with a level floor costs less to prepare than a basement-to-top-floor job in an older house that needs a new circuit. The best way to know is a free quote. Your dealer looks at your home and gives you a clear figure with no surprises.

If your house is older, the good news is what you do not have to do. There is no pit to dig into an old foundation and no shaft to frame through your rooms. The elevator rests on a level floor, and an opening is cut in the floor above for it to pass through. The main prep work is making sure that floor is level and that the space above lines up.

Next, think about where it goes. A good spot is often a corner of the living room, a stair landing, a wide hall or the end of a bedroom. Because the cabin is round or square and open to view, it can sit in plain sight and look like part of the design. If you would rather keep a floor opening out of a room, a balcony install is another option, where a landing or walkway is built to meet the elevator.
The elevator also needs a dedicated electrical circuit, much like a large home appliance. Your dealer will look at your panel during the visit. In an older home, this is often the one item that needs an electrician. In a newer home, the panel usually has room. Either way, you will know before any work begins. The elevator should also sit inside the heated part of your home, not in an unheated garage or porch.
Then come the permits. In most cases, a home elevator in Salt Lake City goes through the local building department, like other home projects that change the structure or wiring. The rules and the time they take can change, so your dealer checks what your address needs and helps with the paperwork. An inspection typically follows the install before you start riding.
