Home elevators in New York

A simpler way between the floors of your New York home.

Keep the home you love, and let the elevator handle the stairs for you.

Stairs are part of daily life in so many New York homes. The bedrooms sit up top, the living space sits in the middle, and often there is a basement below. When climbing starts to hurt, after a surgery, with sore knees or for a partner who needs a hand, the home itself starts to feel smaller.

A PVE home elevator gives those floors back to you. It is air-driven, using patented pneumatic technology that PVE designs and manufactures. In standard installations there is no pit, no hoistway and no separate machine room, so the elevator stands on your existing floor and takes only a corner of a room.

That makes it a good match for a house you already live in, whether it is an older two-story home, a townhouse with several levels or a new build you are still planning. Each elevator is assembled in the USA at our Miami facility and fitted by a trained authorized dealer.

How it works

The cleanest home elevator on the market.

The system runs on household power and uses no harmful oils or lubricants, so it stays clean inside your home. If the power fails during a ride, the cab descends gently to the lowest floor.

  1. 01Air lifts you up

A vacuum pump at the top of the unit changes the air pressure and the cab rises.

  2. 02Gravity brings you down

Air is let back in and the cab descends. No oils, hydraulic fluid or lubricants.

  3. 03Runs on household current

Low power draw, so it works alongside the solar arrays many homes now have.

The most sustainable home elevator available. Anywhere.

Models

Four models. One for every home.

If your stairs are tight and one person rides at a time, the PVE30 has the smallest footprint. The PVE37 and The Cube carry two riders, and The Cube, with its square shape, suits two- and three-story homes. If a wheelchair is part of your plans, start with the PVE52, the model built for wheelchair access.

Why homeowners choose PVE

Safe, simple and made to be seen.

Here is what sets a PVE elevator apart in a New York home, from the first visit to the years of easy rides that follow.

Less construction in your home

In standard installations there is no pit to dig, no hoistway to frame and no separate machine room. For an older New York home, that means fewer walls opened, less dust and less disruption to rooms you have cared for over the years. Most of the work is a clean opening at each floor.

Space-saving by design

The self-supporting design takes a small corner, not a whole room. In a home where every bit of floor counts, like a townhouse or a snug older house, you keep your living space and still reach every level with the press of a button.

A calm descent if the power fails

If the electricity goes out during a ride, the cab descends to the lowest level at a safe speed and the door lock releases. Nobody waits between floors for the power to return, which matters for anyone in your family who rides alone.

A model for wheelchair access

If a wheelchair is part of daily life, the PVE52 is the model to start with. It is marketed as wheelchair accessible, though it is not ADA compliant and not every chair fits, so a test ride at an authorized distributor confirms it for you.

Panoramic design

With panoramic 360 degree visibility, the ride feels open and calm rather than boxed in. The aluminum frame and polycarbonate panels come in several colors, so the elevator can suit a classic interior or a modern one in your home.

Support from a trained dealer

Every PVE elevator is assembled in the USA and factory-tested in Miami, then installed by an authorized dealer trained at our facility. That same dealer sets up your service schedule, so you have one team to call for the life of your elevator.

Testimonials

What homeowners say.

Real words from families who added a PVE elevator to the home they love.

We are not age-limited with the elevator. At any age, it's like living on a single floor. We've been here 5 years and it's never needed anything. The elevator has been flawless.

PVE homeowner5 years with a PVE

My house was built in 1925 and it was hard to get something to fit in with the décor of my home, but the PVE fit in perfectly. I am thrilled with the design, engineering, and reliability of the elevator by PVE.

It turns a 2-story into a ranch concept! It's for the ease & access but also for the resale. I think the investment is worth it!

From idea to installation

What happens during installation?

Your installation plan should cover the work before the elevator arrives as well as assembly and testing.

  1. Review the home

Confirm the layout, the people using the elevator and the levels it needs to serve.

  2. Confirm the model and location

Check dimensions, landing access and the requirements for the selected configuration.

  3. Prepare the site

Complete the agreed structural and electrical work and arrange the required permits and inspections.

  4. Install and hand over

Assemble and test the elevator, complete required approvals, and explain operation and ongoing care.

Timing depends on site preparation, the selected model and local requirements.

FAQ

Questions New York buyers ask before they order.

Have another question? Send us your question and a PVE specialist will answer it for your home. 813-548-4339
Is there room for an elevator in our New York house without giving up a room?

In most cases, yes. A PVE elevator stands on your existing floor and needs no pit or shaft, so it takes a corner rather than a whole room. Many New York homes have a spot near a stairway, a hall or a closet that works well. Every house is different, though, so an authorized dealer will visit, measure and confirm the best place. Request a free consultation and you will know for sure.

What approvals should we expect before work begins here?

You should expect a building permit, and often an inspection once the job is done. In New York, the details depend on your town or city, so the steps can vary from place to place. Your authorized dealer typically prepares the drawings and helps you file what your local office asks for. Allow some time for approval, and start the conversation early so the paperwork does not hold up your install.

Our townhouse has narrow stairs and several levels. Can one elevator reach them all?

Yes, in many cases one elevator can serve every level. The PVE30, PVE37 and PVE52 reach as many as 5 stops, so a tall, narrow home can link its lower level, main floor and bedrooms in one ride. Because the elevator does not use your stairway, narrow stairs are not a problem in themselves. Your dealer will check that the openings line up from floor to floor and that each spot is level.

If the lights go out, how does my mother get down safely?

She comes down on her own, gently. If the power fails while the elevator is moving, the cab lowers itself to the lowest level at a safe speed, and the door lock opens so she can step out. She does not need to call anyone or press anything special. For a parent who rides alone in a New York home, that simple answer to an outage brings real calm to the whole family.

Which elevator can take my husband's wheelchair?

The PVE52 is the one to look at. It is the only PVE model marketed as wheelchair accessible, with a wider door and a roomier cabin that holds up to three passengers. It is not ADA compliant, and not every wheelchair fits, so we suggest riding a PVE52 at an authorized distributor before you decide. Bring the chair he uses every day, and you will see the fit for yourself.

How long from our first call to our first ride?

It depends mostly on the permit and the site work, not on the install itself. Once your home is ready, the elevator typically goes in over 2 to 3 days. Before that comes a home visit, your quote, any approval from your local building office and the prep work, such as leveling the floor or bringing in power. Your dealer will give you a realistic timeline for your New York home once they have seen it.

Why might our quote be different from a neighbor's?

Because no two homes need the same work. The model you choose and the number of floors it serves set the starting point. Then your house adds its own details: an older floor that needs leveling, openings through finished ceilings, new power, or options like an automatic door. In New York, local permit steps can differ too. A free quote after a home visit gives you the true price for your house.

Who will service it after it is installed in New York?

Your authorized dealer will. PVE works through over 250 authorized dealers across 5 continents, all trained at our Miami facility, and your dealer sets up a regular service schedule with you. The elevator is low maintenance and uses no harmful oils, but it still needs regular checkups to keep running well. When you request a quote, ask who will look after your elevator in your part of New York.

Homes across New York come in many shapes. You might own an older house with a steep staircase, a narrow townhouse that rises floor by floor, a family home with a finished basement, or a weekend place you hope to keep for years. Each one asks a slightly different question of an elevator, and the answer starts with where it will stand.

In an older house, the first worry is usually the structure. Because a PVE elevator is self-supporting, it rests on your existing floor and does not rely on your walls to hold it up. You do not dig a pit or build a shaft. The work is mostly a clean opening through each floor it passes, which keeps your trim, plaster and stairway where they are.

The one thing your floor must be is level. Older homes often settle over time, so your dealer will check the exact spot where the elevator will sit. If it needs leveling, that is done during site preparation, before the elevator arrives. Knowing this early keeps your schedule and your quote clear.

Check the floor first: a level spot is what every install starts from.

If your home is tall and narrow, with rooms stacked on several levels, the PVE30, PVE37 and PVE52 offer up to 50 feet of vertical rise over as many as 5 stops. One elevator can link a lower level, the main floor and the bedrooms above. Here, placement matters more than size. Many families choose a spot near the kitchen or the main hall, so the elevator sits on the path they already walk every day.

Planning a stop in the basement? That can work well, and it puts the laundry or a workshop back within easy reach. The space does need to stay comfortable, because the elevator is not used below 65°F (18°C). If your lower level runs cold for part of the year, talk with your dealer about keeping that area heated before you settle on the spot.

If you are building or gutting a house, put the elevator in the plans from the start. Your architect can line up the openings on each floor, bring power to the right place and choose door positions that suit each room. Planning it now takes less work than adding it later, and the elevator can go in near the end of the job.

Before work begins, most projects need approval from the local building office, and the rules can differ from one town or city to the next. You do not have to sort this out alone. Your authorized dealer typically knows what your area asks for, prepares the drawings and helps you through the inspections that follow. Timing varies, so it helps to start the conversation early.

Once the site is ready, the install itself typically takes 2 to 3 days. If your home sits on a busy street or has a tight entry, ask your dealer how the parts will come in and where the crew will work, so your family knows what to expect. Then the elevator is tested, you learn the simple controls, and you ride.
