A PVE air-driven home elevator with its panoramic design, shown inside a private home.
Every floor of your Charlotte home, within easy reach
Ride between your floors in a home elevator that fits the house you already have.
Think about the house you live in now in Charlotte. The bedrooms may be upstairs, the laundry on another floor, and the stairs in between. If those stairs have started to set the pace of your day, a home elevator puts every floor back within easy reach.
PVE designs and manufactures air-driven home elevators. Air pressure lifts the cabin, and gravity helps it come down. Because the elevator is self-supporting, it stands on your existing floor. Standard installations need no pit, no hoistway and no separate machine room, so your home keeps its rooms and its layout.
That is why it suits so many kinds of homes. A two-story family house, a home with a basement or a new build still on the drawing board can each be a good fit. A visit to your Charlotte home confirms where the elevator fits best and what, if anything, needs to be done first.
The cleanest home elevator on the market.
The system runs on your home's electricity and uses no harmful oils, gases or lubricants. If the power fails during a ride, it lowers you gently to the lowest floor. A solar panel package is also available.
- 01Air lifts you up
A vacuum pump at the top of the unit changes the air pressure and the cab rises.
- 02Gravity brings you down
Air is let back in and the cab descends. No oils, hydraulic fluid or lubricants.
- 03Runs on household current
Low power draw, so it works alongside the solar arrays many homes now have.
The most sustainable home elevator available. Anywhere.

- No shaft, pit or machine room

Safe, simple and made to be seen.
Here is what a PVE home elevator brings to your Charlotte home, from the day it is installed to the years you spend living with it.
No pit, no shaft
Standard installations need no pit dug under the floor and no hoistway framed around the elevator. It stands on your existing floor, which keeps the job smaller and keeps more of your Charlotte home just as it is.
A gentle ride down if the power goes out
If the power fails while the elevator is running, the cabin descends to the lowest level at a safe speed and the door lock opens. You are not left waiting between floors, and the cabin has an alarm and a telephone too.
A view all the way around
Panoramic 360 degree visibility is part of the design. The aluminum frame and polycarbonate panels let light pass through, so the elevator feels open and looks at home in a modern or a traditional room.
Quick to install
Once site prep is done, installation typically takes 2 to 3 days. That means less time with a crew in your house and a shorter wait before you can ride between floors.
Low maintenance
The system uses no harmful oils, gases or lubricants. It still needs regular service, and your authorized dealer sets the schedule and keeps it running well for years.
Assembled in the USA
Every PVE elevator is assembled and factory-tested in Miami, Florida. PVE has designed and manufactured air-driven elevators since 2002, is certified by LiftInstitute and is A17.7 code compliant.

What homeowners say.
Real words from families who added a PVE elevator to the home they love.
We are not age-limited with the elevator. At any age, it's like living on a single floor. We've been here 5 years and it's never needed anything. The elevator has been flawless.
My house was built in 1925 and it was hard to get something to fit in with the décor of my home, but the PVE fit in perfectly. I am thrilled with the design, engineering, and reliability of the elevator by PVE.
It turns a 2-story into a ranch concept! It's for the ease & access but also for the resale. I think the investment is worth it!
What happens during installation?
Your installation plan should cover the work before the elevator arrives as well as assembly and testing.
- Review the home
Confirm the layout, the people using the elevator and the levels it needs to serve.
- Confirm the model and location
Check dimensions, landing access and the requirements for the selected configuration.
- Prepare the site
Complete the agreed structural and electrical work and arrange the required permits and inspections.
- Install and hand over
Assemble and test the elevator, complete required approvals, and explain operation and ongoing care.
Timing depends on site preparation, the selected model and local requirements.

Questions from Charlotte homeowners
Our hallways are narrow and the rooms are small. Is there still room for an elevator?
Yes, in many cases there is. The PVE30 has the smallest footprint of the four models and is made for tight spaces. Because it needs no shaft built around it, it can stand in a corner, near the stairs or in a closet that lines up between floors. Every house is different, though, so a dealer visit to your Charlotte home confirms the best spot before you order anything.
Will we have to dig into the foundation or tear up our floors?
No, you will not dig into your foundation in a standard installation. A PVE elevator needs no pit, so it stands on a level floor you already have. What it does need is an opening at each upper floor where the cabin passes through, or a balcony or landing beside it. In some homes, framing or ducts must be moved first. Your dealer checks this during the visit, so you know the work before you commit.
Do we have to get a permit in Charlotte before it goes in?
Yes, you should expect to need one. Like most building work, a home elevator usually needs approval from your local building department and an inspection once it is installed. Your PVE authorized dealer can explain the steps and help with the paperwork. Timing varies by project, so it is wise to start early if you are planning around a surgery, a parent moving in or a remodel.
Is it okay to put the elevator in our garage?
It can work only if the garage is heated and cooled like the rest of your home. The elevator is not used below 65°F, so an unheated garage, porch or attic is not a good spot. Many people choose a living area instead, near the stairs or between bedrooms. If the garage is your only option, ask your dealer what it would take to condition that space during the home visit.
My mom would be riding alone. Is she safe if the power cuts out?
Yes, she will be brought down safely. If the power fails while the elevator is running, the cabin lowers on its own to the lowest floor at a gentle, safe speed, and the door unlocks so she can step out. The cabin also has an alarm and a telephone. For a parent who rides alone, you can add options such as a folding seat or a handrail. Your dealer can show you how it all works.
My dad uses a wheelchair. Is there a model he can roll into?
Yes, look at the PVE52, the only PVE model that is wheelchair accessible. It is the largest of the four and the one to start with when a chair has to fit. It is not ADA compliant, and not every wheelchair fits, so ride a PVE52 at a PVE authorized distributor with his own chair before you order. Your dealer can also check that your home has the space this model needs.
Will we have to move out while it's installed?
No, in many cases you can stay in your home the whole time. Once site prep is done, installation typically takes 2 to 3 days, and the work stays in the area where the elevator goes. Any prep, such as floor openings or a new circuit, comes first, and how long it takes depends on your house. Your dealer will give you a plan with the steps in order, so you know what to expect.
Who fixes it if something goes wrong down the road?
Your local PVE authorized dealer does. PVE works through a network of authorized dealers, all trained at its Miami facility, for installation and ongoing support. The elevator is low maintenance, but it still needs regular service, with an inspection at least every 6 months. Your dealer sets up that schedule for your Charlotte home and is the one to call with any question after the install.
Built for the way Charlotte lives.
- Typical homes
- Two- and three-story houses, older and new
- What it needs
- A level floor, its own circuit and a heated and cooled space
- Permits
- Reviewed with your dealer during the home visit
- Install time
- Typically 2 to 3 days after site prep
Every home in Charlotte is a little different, so the best way to plan is to start with your own house. Is your bedroom upstairs? Do you use a basement every day? Is there a corner near the stairs, a closet that lines up between floors, or a landing where an elevator could stand? Those answers shape your project more than anything else.
If your home is already built, the main question is where the elevator goes. A PVE elevator can pass through your floors, with a neat opening cut at each level. It can also stand beside a balcony or an open landing. In older homes, the dealer checks the framing around that spot, since joists or ducts sometimes need to be moved first.
If you are building or remodeling, you have an easier path. Ask your builder or designer to plan a spot that stacks from floor to floor, with level flooring and an electrical circuit close by. Planning it now takes less work than adding it later, and the elevator can go in near the end of the build.
If your home has three floors, or a basement plus two floors above, one elevator can serve them all. The PVE30, PVE37 and PVE52 can each reach up to 5 stops. You choose the floors that matter to you. The elevator stops level with each one, so there is no step up or down at the door.
Any model needs a few simple things from your home. The floor under it must be level. It needs its own 220 to 240 V circuit, which an electrician can add. It also needs to sit inside the heated and cooled part of your home, since the elevator is not used below 65°F. So plan on a living area rather than an unheated garage or porch.
In many places, a permit is needed before a home elevator goes in, with an inspection once it is done. Your PVE authorized dealer can walk you through the steps where you live and help with the paperwork. Timing varies, so it helps to start early if you are planning around a surgery, a parent moving in or a move-in date.
Once site prep is done, installation typically takes 2 to 3 days.
Because there is no pit to dig and no shaft to frame, the work stays in one area of your home. In many cases you can keep living in the house while the crew is there. The rest of your rooms stay as they are, and you can ride between floors soon after the crew packs up.
Think ahead about who will ride. A couple planning to age in place may want room for two. A parent moving in may like a folding seat or a handrail in the cabin. A family with a wheelchair user should ride a PVE52 at a dealer first. Tell the dealer who it is for, then request a free consultation so they can suggest the right model and options.
