Last month, Home Elevators by PVE had to opportunity to interview a customer about their recently installed residential lift. Looking for a solution to age-in-place, this customer shared their decision process and experience with these one-of-a-kind, panoramic home lifts. Requiring a 2-Stop residential elevator for their project, this retro-fit application was installed in the foyer of the residence and provided the homeowner with addition access to the basement level of their home. A beautiful retro-fit application, the homeowner chose our 2-Passenger home elevator, which included our cabin folding seat and white exterior finish, to meet their accessibility needs.

“My name is Ken and we live in Plymouth, Michigan.
Our anniversary was coming forward, our 50th Anniversary and we thought it would be very special to do something a bit unusual and we put an elevator in a ranch and haven’t regretted it for one minute since.

We were using the basement much more frequently going down some 16 steep steps. Traditional elevators could certainly have been functional, but they came with issues because of the clear fact that it was very disruptive to put one in. And so, we started looking for other options that still would employ an elevator. And to our delight very quickly we came upon PVE.
Well unlike conventional elevators the PVE is extremely light. Just a few hundred pounds. So the retro-fit was so much easier. There is no foundation whatsoever. There is no footing. There’s no major rip-up whatsoever of the basement. It was transparent. You can see through most of it. It complements the foyer, it complements the design of the house. It’s a pure add. We see obvious enhancements in our life. More safe, much more safe for not only us but more importantly our grandchildren. Much more convenient.

The installation was dramatically easier. The safety considerations for the elevator were also, very well thought out. And on this one it’s pretty much safety proof, it is safety proof as far as we are concerned. We like the technology. We investigated it substantially. We knew that there were no other pneumatic elevators anywhere in the world to be had. And therefore we began to look at it in detail, contacted the home office in Miami. Very receptive. Responded within less than a day and they put us onto the local distributor here.

I would recommend it to anyone that’s beginning to age; that is a bit concerned about using the balance of their home whether it be in the basement or a second floor. Having to move from a home prematurely because of their lack of confidence either going up or going down, this is their answer. In particularly if you love your home and most people do.
We plan to stay in this house for the duration. No one knows what the future holds but with the flexibility we now have with the elevator we’re going to take this ride for a long time. Absolutely!”
Residential Elevator Frequently Asked Questions
All elevators generate sound while the machinery is operational and PVE has machinery options that are as quiet, if not quieter than alternative products on the market. With the machinery only activated when the elevator is in use, residential elevators have a number of machinery options available for homeowners to choose from in order to fit their audio comforts and needs. While residential elevators by PVE are panoramic, they are manufactured using Polycarbonate Panels and are not manufactured using glass. Polycarbonate panels are much lighter and stronger than glass panels, with an impact resistance approximately 200 times stronger than glass. Each one of the panels on the elevator can be replaced in the event that a panel is damaged, scratched, etc.
Fully certified residential elevators are extremely safe. PVE’s easy-to-install, self-supporting residential elevators are fully certified by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in all 50 states and 90+ countries globally under the European Machinery Directive, with 18+ years of experience in the market. In the event of a power failure while in operation, gravity will slowly bring the cabin down to the ground level, at which point the passenger is able to get out. All of the PVE residential elevator models are fully equipped with mechanical car locking devices on each floor and have a full set of Type A Safety Brakes, meeting the most stringent requirements in the industry. In addition, per elevator code, these fully certified home elevators come equipped with an in-cabin phone to ensure the passenger can communicate in the event of an emergency. Pneumatic Vacuum Elevators, LLC has a very unique approach in the industry in that every elevator undergoes full operational testing at the factory before shipping, ensuring the highest quality standards are met.
